Overview

The Pediatric Satellite Team providessupplemental staffing across Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC and Atrium Health Cabarrus Levine Children’s Jeff Gordon Children’s Center in Concord, NC. RN’s primarily support the general pediatric medical surgical units, but have the ability to cross-train in specialty areas within Levine Children’s Hospital i.e., Children’s ED, CVICU, PICU, Neonatal, Progressive, and obtain Chemo certification. 

Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital (LCH) has taken the community to another level of service to provide care for the growing population of children in our region.  At 247 beds, LCH is the largest children’s hospital between Atlanta and Washington DC.  It serves high acuity patients as the flagship children’s hospital within the innovative Atrium Health and offers a full complement of over 125 pediatric subspecialists in over 30 different pediatric specialties.  We have 4 pediatric hospitalist teams, a 10 bed PICU, a 10 bed Cardiac ICU (expanding to 24 bed PICU and 20 bed CVICU by the end of 2024), an 85-bed Level IV NICU, and an inpatient pediatric rehabilitation floor.  Levine Children’s Hospital is also Charlotte’s only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.  LCH has been named a Best Children’s Hospital by U.S. News & World Report for 17 consecutive years and is nationally ranked in 10 pediatric specialties. Currently, LCH is ranked as the #1 children’s hospital in North Carolina and tied for #1 in the southeastern United States. Additionally, Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center and Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital have earned Magnet re-designation from The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®. Magnet designated health care organizations showcase excellence in nursing practice and patient outcomes.  

Atrium Health Levine Children's Jeff Gordon Children’s Center (JGCC) is a 28-bed children’s unit within Atrium Health Cabarrus that serves the surrounding counties to deliver inpatient and sub-specialty care to the pediatric patients of that community. The children’s unit is a general pediatric, Progressive Care, and Epilepsy unit. JGCC is home to the regions only dedicated pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) and is a Level 3 EMU designated by the National Association for Epilepsy Centers. It has also been accredited through The Joint Commission for disease specific certification for Epilepsy. Support services are available to the patients and families we serve with Certified Child Life Specialists throughout the children’s unit and ancillary departments. JGCC is part of Atrium Health Levine Children’s, which includes Levine Children’s Hospital (LCH). LCH been named a Best Children’s Hospital by U.S. News & World Report for 17 consecutive years and is nationally ranked in 10 pediatric specialties. 

Primary Purpose

The RN Clinical Supervisor Float is responsible for the direct provision of patient care and for assisting the manager with daily operations to include but not limited to coordination of patient care/outcomes, allocation of human and fiscal resources, communications, patient throughput, program development and oversight, patient, physician and teammate rounding, selection, development, and retention of team members, clinical supervision and performance appraisal, performance improvement activities, service recovery and compliance with regulatory agency requirements. The RN Clinical Supervisor maintains clinical and professional competency as appropriate to the population of patients served. 

A registered nurse’s practice is guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.

Major Responsibilities 

LEADERSHIP/GROWTH

• Continually demonstrates and supports a Professional Practice model that allows nurses to work in collaboration with interdisciplinary partners to achieve high quality patient outcomes.

• Incorporates the Nursing theoretical framework in defining the professional nursing practice at Atrium Health.

• Supports the manager utilizing systematic approaches to enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, nursing service administration and delivery of care in the department.

• Demonstrates transformational leadership behaviors and serves as a change agent assisting teammates in understanding the importance, necessity, impact and process of change.

• Attains knowledge and competency regarding current practice reflective of the specialty area or practice setting and integrates evidence-based practice and research findings into the practice environment.

• Evaluates personal nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules and regulations, and applies knowledge in practice setting.

• Engages teammates and provides leadership in the professional practice setting and nursing profession to serve as an effective change agent, maintain a healthy work environment, and promote innovation in care delivery.

• Serves as an advocate seeking protections and rights of patients, patient families, team members, students and other disciplines especially related to health and safety.

• Role models Patient Experience standards /always behaviors and seeks opportunities for employee recognition.

• Participates on committees and shared governance activities, serving as a resource for nurse colleagues.

• Participates in the unit/department/hospital performance improvement program utilizing PDSA as the basic model for PI, data collection and analysis and participation with shared governance activities.

• Models the mission, vision, values, One Behaviors, and the goals of the department/hospital and healthcare system

• Shares pertinent information with managers to promote continuity of care and open dialogue for problematic concerns.

• Coaches and counsels’ teammates and after consultation with the manager or administrative supervisor administers discipline up to and including written warnings.

• Provides peer coaching and may assist the manager preparing and delivering performance appraisals.

STRUCTURE/ENVIRONMENT

• Supports the Manager with unit/department operations and assurance that teammates compliant with the Nursing Practice Act, regulatory agency standards, governing body and facility policies and procedures as defined by Atrium Health.

• Functions as a team member to accomplish goals and objectives of the unit/department and the organization.

• Demonstrates competence in the application of principles of nursing leadership and clinical supervision.

• Assists the Manager with interview, selection, and supervision of nursing personnel in the department.

• Assists the manager as needed with coordination of communication at regular intervals throughout shifts via team meetings/huddles to exchange information/ promote dialogue with teammates.

• Collaborates with manager to ensure understanding and compliance with federal and state laws, to include healthcare services and practice, while complying with all required regulations and policies.

• Assists with appropriate utilization of resources (human and fiscal) to meet patient care needs

• Rounds on patients, teammates, and physicians at prescribed frequencies to gain insight into patient care, employee, and physician satisfaction and appropriateness of patient care and/or department operations.

• Evidence of rounding activities and findings are documented as are actions taken to improve care and teammate/physician engagement

• Supports and contributes to the Patient Centered Care Philosophy by understanding that every team member is a caregiver whose role is to meet the needs of the patient.

SERVICE/QUALITY

• Creates collegial relationships and coordinates nursing care with other healthcare disciplines to integrate services across continuum of healthcare
