Hands on Asheville- Buncombe - Helene Recovery Efforts - 4/2/25

Please Join the Piedmont Carolinas Chapter AACN in our relief efforts on April 2,2025. Please email our local chapter email or any board members for interest in this effort. We will be meeting up the morning of to carpool to the event. There will be additional dates added in our efforts to helping our neighbors! The Downtown Welcome Table is a restaurant style meal where everyone is welcome to the table to experience a dignifying, abundant meal served on East Fork Pottery with freshly rolled linens and silverware. 

When you come to serve at Haywood Street you are invited to be a Companion rather than a volunteer. You are invited to "be with" before you "do for." As a companion you can serve as a table server, you can work in our kitchen preparing plates, help clean the dishes in the dish-room or simply sit down and enjoy a meal with a neighbor.

Lunch on Wednesdays is served from 10am-12:30pm. Companions are needed from 8am-2:30pm. 

Must be 18+

Volunteer Responsibilities:

• Serving Guests
• Dish Room
• Kitchen - Food prep & Service
• Parking Lot Clean Up
• Floating - offering drinks and desserts 
• Sorting and organizing donations 

Skills Required:  

• Positive and compassionate customer service skills
• Willingness to work with and be in community with folks struggling with mental illness, substance use, homelessness
•  Ability to remain standing for long periods
• Ability to be outside in the sun
• Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. 

Attire:

• No requirements. Comfortable clothes and shoes recommended.
• No storage for miscellaneous items i.e. purses, etc.

Health and Safety: 

• No access to bathrooms 
• Drinks and snacks provided
